Game Comments: Normal Epiphany jumped out to a quick first-quarter lead and maintained a lead between 10-13 points throughout the remainder of the first half until Nokomis cut a 29-16 deficit to 29-21 at the intermission. Epiphany's Carly Norton fired in five three-pointers in the first half and led the Knights with 17 points at halftime. Teammate Cristin Neill scored 8 points in the first half. Kerri Beasley led Nokomis in scoring in the first half with 7 points, including a three-pointer at the end of the second quarter to cut the Braves' deficit to 29-21. Epiphany's Carly Norton broke the 8A sinbgle game record of five three-pointers with her sixth early in the third quarter to give her team a 10-point lead. Ahead 36-29 with 1:29 to go in the third quarter, Epiphany held the ball for a final shot, but lost it on a traveling turnover call with :00.4 remaining. Nokomis rolled the ball in to Mandy Smith and she fired in a three-point basket from near mid-court to cut the Nokomis deficit to 36-32 after three quarters. Norton broke the all-time IESA girls basketball single game record for three-pointers with 5:02 left in the fourth quarter when she hit her seventh to give Epiphany a six-point lead. Epiphany went cold from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and that let Nokomis rally and then stay in the game. Leading 42-36 with 1:48 to play, Epiphany went to the free throw line 10 times and hit only 4 of the foul shots, but Nokomis couldn't buy a basket and fell behind 46-36 before closing out the scoring for the 46-38 Epiphany win. Epiphany made only 13 of 28 free throws for the game. Carly Norton led Epiphany with 30 points, including an all-time IESA and Class 8A girls state basketball tournament single game record seven three-pointers. The old all-time record was 6 by Ashley KcKown of London Milles Valley in 200 (7A). The old 8A record was 5 by Kassie Drew of Springfield Cathedral in 1999, McKensey Long of Carthage in 2002 and Ashley Timmerman of Pontiac St. Mary's in 2003. Epiphany also tied the all-time single game and Class 8A single game team 3-point single game record with 7, sharing the all-time mark with Maroa Forsyth in 1996 (8A) and London Mills Valley n 2000 (7A)
