Game Comments: Rockford Flinn captured their first ever IESA state title with a 49-40 victory over Morton JHS. The Falcons finish the season undefeated with a perfect 20-0 record while the Jr. Potters close out their season with a 26-2 record. This was really a well-played game between the two teams. Flinn jumped to an early 13-5 lead after the first quarter as Ambranette Storr tallied 9 of her teams 13 first quarter points. Storr finished the game with 26 points which set a Class 4A championship title game record. Morton crawled to within 6 at the half as Maddy Decker nailed two 3 point field goals inn the second quarter to keep the Jr. Potters in the game. Flinn kept the Jr. Potters at bay most of the second half mainly from some terrific free throw shooting. The Falcons had 18 free throws in the fourth quarter alone connecting on 12 of the attempts. Decker and Courtney Jones were the leading scorers for Morton with 13 points apiece while Mariah Hill chipped in 13 points for the Falcons including 5 for 6 from the free throw line in the decisive 4th quarter. Congratulations to both teams on outstanding seasons.
