Game Comments: Competing for the state's ultimate prize, it was Ogelsby Holy Family narrowly defeating Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes by the final score of 44-33 to capture the 8-1A State Championship. The championship game started off with numerous turnovers which resulted in just a combined 11 points in the first quarter. The second quarter was a bit of a different story, as Oglesby Holy Family began to develop an outside shot to key their 18-16 lead heading into the half. Braidy Ship notched four of his game high 13 points in the second, as the Crusaders left the first half behind with most of the game's momentum. Heading into the third, it appeared as if the Crusaders were going to pull away from the Lancers thanks to a key four point series. However, Zach Jarrett of Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes sunk a clutch three with finals seconds of the third ticking away to pull the Lancer's within two. Suddenly the men of Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes were rolling offensively, shockingly taking their first lead of the half early in the fourth quarter. Their tenacious defense and quick ball movement led to their three point lead with just under four minutes left to play. However, like they've done all season long, Holy Family put together a run thus capping off their perfect season. It began with a clutch "and one" by Josh Sapp followed by a quick put back by Braidy Shipp that would once again give the Crusaders the lead. They didn't look back, as Nick Plankenhorn's three pointer in the game's final two minute all but sealed the state championship for Ogelsby Holy Family. Plakenhorn finished with nine points on the evening, while Simon Brinkoetter notched a team high 12 for the Lancers.

In what was a true IESA State Championship classic, congratulations to both teams!
