Game Comments: The first game of the 8th grade class 3A tournament came down to the wire and Glasford Illini Bluffs won by the slimmest of margins, 48-47, over the Williamsville Bee Bees. Illini Bluffs was led in scoring by all-everything player Darian White and they were in the lead for most of the game. However, Williamsville never gave up and when Tanner Schultz drained a 3 pt. field goal with 1:20 remaining in the game, the score was tied at 44. Illini Bluffs worked the ball down the court and at the :45 mark, Nick Burton scored on a layup to put the Tigers back in front by two. That lead was short-lived as Brad Wagner drilled a three pointer from the left side of the court with 34 seconds left to give Williamsville its first lead of the game at 47-46. Glasford brought the ball down the court and when Darian White drove the lane it appeared as though he would shoot to give the Tigers the lead. White instead found a wide open Blake Rynearson who made a little 6 ft. jumper for his only points of the game but more importantly gave Illini Bluffs the lead at 48-47 with just 18 seconds remaining. Williamsville's Schultz had a very good look at a three point goal with 8 seconds to go but the ball simply did not go in. Williamsville was able to gather the missed shot but a two point attempt was blocked and the Tigers escaped with a hard fought win. Glasford advances to the semi-final game Saturday evening while Williamsville, which was led in scoring by Josh Gentile with 23 points closes out their season with a 19-5 record.
