Match Comments: The first semifinal match-up of the day saw the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains take on the Panthers of St. Joseph. What a great match between two pretty evenly matched teams. St. Joseph took the lead with their first two serves, but Pleasant Plains came right back. Defensive specialist #1 Ali Fraase for Pleasant Plains did a nice job passing early on to set-up the Cardinals offense. #13 Mackenzie Houser led the attack for the Cardinals in the first set. #23 Hannah Dukeman for St. Joseph began the comeback with her serving late in the set. The Cardinals struggled to return her serve and fell out of their offensive rhythm. The teams traded side-outs and St. Joseph fought back to within one point in the set, but the Cardinals persevered.
The second set saw the Panthers strike early and take the early lead. A nice middle kill by #29 Stephanie Trame to give the Panthers a 10-5 lead forced the Cardinals to take a timeout. The Panthers maintained this 5-point lead until #32 Alyia Oliver cut the lead to one. After trading side-out point #32 Bailey Dowling for the Panthers had a huge hit up the middle to give the Panthers a 24-20 lead. But the Cardinals would not go away. #31 stepped up to serve and kept Pleasant Plains in the set. #13 Houser added a cross court kill to tie the game at 25 another kill to give her team a one point lead 26-25. #1 Fraase stepped up to serve and through down an ace to win the match.
St. Joseph will play in the third place match Tuesday night and Pleasant Plains will play in the 7-3A state title game at 6:45. The Cardinals will be playing in their 6th consecutive 7-3A state title match in which they have one the last three.
