Match Comments: The final quarterfinal match of the day saw the Braves of Mackinaw Dee Mack take on the Spartans of Dunlap Valley MS. Mackinaw jumped out to an early lead and dominated the set. Nerves seemed to be an issue for Dunlap Valley in their first set. Dee Mack was led by #18 Makaylea Sepich and #2 Sarah Pineda serving. On the attack #19 Audrey Thomann and #3 Skyler Jenkins were powerful at the net. #18 Sepich ended the set with a hit cross court.
The second set saw a totally different team come out for Dunlap Valley. The Spartans took the early lead forcing Mackinaw into a timeout at 10-5 to re-group as the Braves struggled to return serve. The Spartans were led at the net by #19 Marissa Seibel who had several cross court kills and #23 Ellie Sorenson who added several key blocks and kills down the stretch. But the Braves would not go away and kept the match close. Both teams took advantage of each other’s errors towards the end of the set. Once again at the end of the set, #18 Sepich came up big for the Braves with her hitting to give Mackinaw Dee Mack key kills at the end of the match.
Congratulations to Dunlap Valley MS on a great season. Mackinaw Dee Mack will face Athens in the 5:15 semi-final match tonight.
