Match Comments: In the final quarter-final match of the day, the Cougars of Springfield Christ the King met the Braves of Payson Seymour in an epic battle. Springfield Christ the King got out to an early lead as the first set began. Josie Stanford had several kills for the Braves that brought them back into the match and then into the lead 16-14. The Cougars answered behind the serving of Carissa Reedy who had 7 service points in the first set and pushed the Cougars to 22. Stanford had a kill to bring the Braves to 18-22. Taylor Rahn had a kill for the Cougars to bring the ball into the serving hands of Claire Esslinger who served out the first set for the Cougars. In the second set, both teams traded points early. The Braves stepped up their play at the net getting kills from Lissa Hull, Kamryn Flesner, and Stanford. The pinpoint serving of Haley Hickerson kept the Braves on track. Late in the second set, Stanford and Abi Gregg combined at the net to close out the second set for the Braves. In the third set, the Cougars got out to an early lead. The Braves countered with aggressive net play turning to Stanford and Flesner. The Braves closed the gap and took the lead off of an ace by Lissa Hull. The Cougars countered with kills from Reedy and went ahead 23-20. Melina Tedrow had a timely kill for the Braves and tied up the match. Gregg finished off the match with great serving for the Braves.
