Game Comments: The Third place game saw the Falcons of Gibson City take on the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains. The Cardinals were first on the scoreboard at the 4 minute mark. They took the lead, but GCMS fought back, finally settled into their offense and took the lead at the quarter 9-6. The second quarter was a defensive battle as both teams caused turnovers, but struggled to put the ball in the basket. Pleasant Plains tied the game at the 2 minute mark with a three by #15 Addison Darush. But GCMS #21 Emma Kurtenbach answered with a three of her own to retake the lead. With seconds left on the clock #15 Darush drained another three to tie the game at the half.
The Falcons started the second half with a quick three by #52 Claire Retherford. The next trip down the court and #52 Retherford pops a turnaround jumper but missed the free throw. The Falcons led most of the quarter, but with 33 seconds #15 struck again and drained a three to tie the game. In the fourth, GCMS took the lead back with a jumper by #31 at the free throw line. With 2 to play the Cardinals tied the game at 26, but GCMS Falcons immediately answered. With 7 seconds to play Pleasant Plains drove the lane and dished to #32 Mckenzie Smith who put in the lay-up at the buzzer.
In the overtime Pleasant Plains was first on the board, but GCMS quickly answered to tie it back up at 31 apiece. #15 Makenzi Bielfeldt for GCMS was on the line and made 1 of 2, but GCMS grabbed the rebound and #52 Retherford was back on the line and she made 1 of 2 as well and GCMS took a 2 point lead.
Leading scorer for the game was #15 Addison Darush with 11 points for Pleasant Plains. Claire Retherford had 10 points for the game for GCMS.
