Game Comments: The second quarterfinal match-up saw the Falcons of Gibson City take on the Utes of Watseka Glenn Raymond turned out to be another nail biter. Nerves played a roll for both teams early in the game as they both struggled to find a rhythm on offense. The Falcons took the early lead and were up 8 points on the Utes until late in the second quarter. With seconds to play in the half, #34 Mallory Drake drained a three for Watseka to cut the lead to one at the half.
In the third quarter both teams brought their game and they battled back trading points on either end. #1 Natalie Schroeder drained a three at the buzzer to tie the game at 23 apiece in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Watseka quickly took the lead but GCMS had an answer. The teams traded baskets and with 53 seconds to play the Utes up by 1 with the ball and GCMS fouled #1 Natalie Schroeder who made both to make it a three point game. Again Watseka found themselves on the free throw line but missed the free throw and with 18.5 seconds. The Falcons call timeout for one last look. They run an inbound play to seventh grader Emma Kurtenbach on the baseline and she drains a three to tie the game with 10.1 seconds to play. The Falcons carried their momentum into the overtime and pulled out the win.
Congratulations to Watseka Glenn Raymond on a great season. Gibson City will play Eureka in the 5:00 semi-final game tonight.
