Game Comments: Hillsboro Dragons faced the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains in the final match-up of the night. In the first quarter, the Dragons held the Cardinals scoreless and took an 8-0 lead into the second quarter. With three minutes to play in the second quarter Maddie Dossett popped the lid off the basket for the Cardinals with a nice outside jumper. The cardinals made a run with 8 points in the quarter, but Hillsboro took a 14-8 lead in at the half.
In the second half Pleasant Plains offense picked it up as shots started to drop for them, but they Hillsboro continued to add points as well. #20 Reegan Smith aggressive play on defense and drives into the paint for lay-ups in the second half and their free throw shooting helped Pleasant Plains cut the Hillsboro lead to 5 with 3 minutes to play. The Cardinals continued their aggressive play and on a steal and a basket cut the lead to 1 with 1:50 to play. With less than a minute to play Hillsboro had a 4 point lead and the ball. Pleasant Plains in an effort to stop the clock fouled, but Hillsboro made their free throws scoring 8 points from the charity stripe and 4 points in the paint in the final quarter.
Pleasant Plains will play GCMS in the third place game Thursday night and Hillsboro, who won the 7th grade title in 2013 will play Eureka for the championship.
