Game Comments: In what was a heart pounding quarterfinal finale for Saturday, the Chatham Glenwood Titans narrowly defeated the Morton JHS Junior Porters by the final score of 33-30. In what was a back and forth contest throughout, the Titans overcame a sluggish first quarter offensively. Morton JHS, meanwhile, jumped out to an early 12-8 lead thanks to the strong play of Caylie Jones. The 5'7 forward tallied an impressive six first quarter points that had the Junior Porters on their game early. Back would come the Titans however, as a balanced second quarter offense would tie things up at 18 heading into the half. With a trip to the Class 4A state semifinals on the line, both teams came out aggressive to begin the third quarter. Trading buckets seemingly every possession, it was a Josi Becker three that would put Morton JHS up 25-24 heading into the fourth quarter. With the final seconds of the game ticking away, Makenzie Bray of Chatham Glenwood delivered a clutch three point play following a hard drive to the basket. Those points, along with two big time free throws from Ciara Lahr would eventually be enough for the Titans to hang onto the victory. Kiara Downey of Chatham Glenwood would finish with a game high 11 points while Caylie Jones tally 9 points to lead Morton.
With the victory, the Titans advance to the Class 4A semifinal, as they await the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal contest between Charleston and Channahon. That semifinal contest will take place Wednesday, December 18 at 6:00pm.
