Game Comments: In the first Class 4A quarterfinal contest of the day, the Spartans of Frankfort Summit Hill edged out the Bulldogs of Bolingbrook Brooks by the final score of 40-30. In the first quarter, it was the Bulldogs with an early lead fueled by key perimeter shooting. Tsimba Malonga and Francesca Aniceto both had big time three point shots that contributed to the Bulldog's 11-8 first quarter lead. The tempo of the game would quickly change however, as Lauren Hunter asserted her presence down low, especially in the second quarter. The outstanding center for the Spartans notched 9 of her eventual 18 points in the second quarter alone, as Frankfort Summit Hill would leapfrog the Bulldogs en route to a 21-15 halftime lead. The second half was much of the same for the Spartans, as great post play combined with clutch free throw shooting would carry Frankfort Summit Hill down the stretch toward the victory. Hunter was the leading scorer in the game, but Bolingbrook's Tsimba Malonga made her presence known with 13 points for the Bulldogs.
The Spartans advance to the Class 4A semifinal, as they await the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal contest between Calumet City Dirksen and Edwardsville Liberty. That semifinal contest will take place Wednesday, December 18 at 4:30pm.
