Game Comments: With the Class 2A Girls third place trophy on the line, Mendon Unity outlasted Peoria St. Philomena 24-22 in what will go down as one of the all time great tournament games in IESA history. Both teams got off to a relatively slow start to begin the game with neither establishing any offensive consistency. After a first quarter that saw Mendon take a three point lead, the Tigers of St. Phils muscled their way to a strong defensive second, cutting the margin to just one heading into half. Following a third quarter that saw both teams strike even at five points, the Colts of Mendon Unity watched as their slim lead diminished late in the fourth. With just under a minute remaining and the game tied up, Clair Rabe hit her only field goal of the day for the Colts putting them ahead by two. Right back came Peoria, as Sara Whalen banked in two clutch free throws with just under five seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. Jordan Hildebrand began the first overtime period sinking a big layup under duress to put her Colts up early. The Tigers would answer right back with a field goal of their own tying up the contest at 21. Both teams would notch a single free throw in the final seconds that would send the game to its second overtime. This is where the classic contest would end, as newly inserted Kiersten Pratt sank a clutch jumper from the wing that would end up being the only points score in the period, thus sending the Colts home victorious.

Congratulations to both teams on a phenomenal display of heart and desire.
