Game Comments: With a state title invite hanging in the balance, the Saints of Bloomington Holy Trinity used a fourth quarter run to defeat Mendon Unity 32-26. In what was the game of the evening, both teams started out slow, only netting 9 total points in the first quarter. The intensity began to pick up in the second, when both teams began to find their rhythm on offense. The Colts of Mendon Unity tipped in a late layup that would send both teams into the half tied at 13. The third quarter was much of the same, with each team trading momentum with each falling shot. Thanks to the efforts of Kate Hoerdemann and her 7 third quarter points, Bloomington entered the fourth up one. From there, the Saints took advantage of what the Colt defense gave them, as they executed the fast break to perfection, stretching their lead late. But Claire Rabe and her Mendon teammates would not go quietly, as they cut the lead down to five with less than two minutes to play. However the Colts could not connect from downtown despite several quality looks. Rabe led Mendon Unity with 7 points.
Bloomington Holy Trinity will now face Mt. Olive in next Thursday's championship game. The Colts of Mendon will battle Peoria St. Philomena with third place on the line.
The third place contest begins at 6pm, with the championship game tipping off at 7:30pm.
Congratulations to both teams!
