Game Comments: In what was the first of two semifinal games, Eureka used a strong second half effort to upend the Trojans of Auburn 30-22 and by doing so, advance to the Class 3A State Championship. Hayley Coffman continued her outstanding tournament play, as she knocked in 14 of her teams 30 points. Following a second quarter that watched the Hornets lead shrink to just three thanks to clutch shooting from Auburn's Katryel Clark, Eureka had seemingly lost their momentum. That changed in a big way late in the third quarter as the Hornets capitalized on several Trojan turnovers that were turned into points, including six unanswered to end the quarter. Auburn's struggles late can be pinpointed to the free-throw line, where the Trojans were just 1-11 on the evening.
Both teams await their opponents following tonight's Monticello/Crest Hill semifinal matchup. Those contests will take place next Thursday, December 6th begining with the 3rd Place game at 6:00pm followed by the Championship game at 7:30pm.
