Game Comments: The first game of the 2011 8th grade girls class 4A proved to be highly entertaining as Champaign Jefferson defeated the Mustangs of Homer Glen Homer, 45-41 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. The Jaguars led by 6 points at halftime but Homer Glen came out of the locker room fired up and played a terrific third quarter and had the game tied at 30 heading into the 4th quarter. However, Jefferson pulled away in the 4th quarter for the victory. The Jaguars were led in scoring by 6'3" Tori McCoy with 27 points. McCoy tied two class 4A records in the game--most points in a game with 27 and most free throws attempted in a game with 17. Missed free throws almost cost Jefferson the victory as the Jaguars were only able to convert nine of ther 29 attempts. Cinia McCray had a nice game for the Mustangs with 19 points. Jeffesron will take their undefeated record of 26-0 into the semifinal matchup against the winner of the Rochester/Normal Kingsley game. Homer closes out their season with a 22-4 record. Congratulations to both teams.
