Game Comments: The third quarterfinal match-up pitted the Indians of Gillespie against the Cornjerkers of Hoopeston Area. Hoppeston took the early lead receiving points from multiple players. Hoppeston worked the ball into #23 Luke Hofer at the top of the key who would drive or pass out to the wing who to maximize their offense. Gillespie settled into their play in the second quarter, driving to the basket more to produce points and second chance opportunities. Hoppeston moved away from what worked for them in the 1st quarter, but maintained a three point lead at the half.
The second half of play Gillespie came out with a new found purpose. The dominated the boards and moved the ball around for the open shot and increased their pressure on defense holding Hoopeston to 2 points in the third quarter. Hoopeston made a run in the fourth quarter, but a couple quick steals by Gillespie converted into easy lay-ups gave them an 11 point lead with a minute to play. A lead they would not relinquish.
Leading scorer for the game was #23 Lucas Hofer for Hoopeston Area. Gillespie had three players with 11 points, Frankie Barrett, Chance Reiniesch, and Anthony Kravanya.
Congratulations to both teams on a great game and season. Gillespie will play in the second semifinal match-up tonight.
