Game Comments: The Eagles of Mulberry Grove grinded their way to a 31-24 victory over Bradley St. Joseph, thus punching their ticket to the Class 1A State Semi-Finals. Early on, it was a back and forth affair between two teams that were seemingly scoring at will. Mulberry Grove used an array of shooters to spread out the Viking defense, while Bradley St. Joseph relied heavily on Jon Storer’s six first quarter points. Clinging to a one point lead heading into the second, the Eagle defense clamped down the Viking offense, limiting them to just two second quarter points. The defensive clinic continued in the third, while steady ball movement allowed the Eagle offense to stay balanced. No one player for Mulberry Grove scored more than eight points, but five different scorers each finished with four or more points. That combination of timely shooting and tenacious defense inevitably led to the Viking's downfall. Depsite the loss, Storer ended the game with 10 points while teammate Jon Koerner compiled a game high 12.
With the victory, Mulberry Grove awaits the winner of the final quarterfinal contest of the day; Champaign Next Generation and Annawan. Game time is tonight at 6:30pm.
Terrific effort showcased by both teams! |
