Game Comments: The first matchup of Saturday's Class 1A 7th Grade Boys Basketball State Tournament saw the Eagles of Chrisman Scottland use timely shooting en route to their 38-30 win over the Redbirds of Virginia. Early on it was the Eagle defense that was setting the tempo, holding Virginia to just four first quarter points. The second quarter was much of the same, as Chrisman Scottland ballooned their lead to nine points heading into halftime. Chris Ellis, who finished with a game high 20 points, was extremely active defensively forcing several Redbird turnovers. After a third quarter that once again favored Chrisman Scottland, the Redbird offense finally got going late to close the gap to only six. After a quiet three quarters, Brooks Moore netted eight 4th quarter points and fueled Virginia's comeback efforts as precious seconds ticked away. It was not to be however, as Chris Ellis's clutch free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the win for the Eagles.
The victory sends Chrisman Scottland to this afternoon's semi-final round as they await the winner of Bartonville Monroe and Dieterich.
