Game Comments: Nokomis JHS starters: 3, 10, 20, 51, 52. Champaign St. Matthew starters: 11, 22, 5, 24, 30. Nokomis JHS came back from a 26-22 deficit after three quarters to outscore Champaign St. Matthew 15-3 in the fourth quarter. Nokomis JHS power forward Devon Wright, who scored eight of his 19 points in the third quarter, scored a basket and a free throw in the final period. His teammate Austin Leigh, who left the game with foul trouble early in the first half, scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter on a field goal and six free theows to lead the comeback charge. Matthew Restad hit a three-pointer from out front with 1:02 left in the first quarter to give St. Matrthew a 5-4 lead that it never lost the rest of the half. St. Matthew scored two more baskets for a 9-4 lead with :33.8 left in the first quarter. In the second quarter, baskets by Porter Miller from underneath pushed St. Matthew to leads of 16-12 and then 18-14. Devon Wright scored eight straight points for Nokomis JHS to bring the Braves back from the four-point halftime deficit and into leads of 20-18 and then 22-20. Porter Miller of St. Matthew scored on back-to-back steal layups in the final minute of the third quarter to push his team to a 26-22 lead after three quarters. Gabe DeWerff hit a jumper from the right baseline for Nokomis JHS to tie the game at 27-27 with 1:53 left in the fourth quarter and Nokomis proceeded to score 10 of the final 12 points, the final six coming on free throws. Austin Leigh put Nokomis JHS ahead 29-27 with 1:26 to go with a basket from underneath.Then Keven Carroll tied it at 29-29 for St. Matthew with a pair of free throws. A runner by Devon Wright put Nokomis JHS ahead for good 31-29 with :58.3 remaining. Then Austin Leigh made four free throws and Dolan O'Malley made a pair of free throws to seal the win.
