Match Comments: The first quarterfinal match of the day was a thriller between the Bobcats of Beecher and the Panthers of St. Joseph. In the first set, a block from Madison Irwin set up a slight lead for Beecher early. Bree Trimble answered with 2 kills and 2 blocks to put the lead into the hands of the Panthers. Both teams had great long rallies with numerous incredible defensive plays. Jaida Schroeder had a block at the end of the set for the Bobcats that helped them close out the first set. In the second set, the Panthers found some momentum at the net. Trimble, Hannah Lewis, and Shelby McElroy all had offensive plays that put the Panthers up early. A big block from Irwin put the ball back into the hands of the Bobcats mid-set. The Panthers recovered the serve and the momentum swung their way. Lewis then had three consecutive kills for the Panthers that extended the lead for St. Joseph. The steady play of Beecher put them back in the match and they ate away at the Panther lead. Schroeder and Adrianna Picicco both had kills that put the Bobcats into the lead. The Panthers found a spark and Rylee Walsh had some key plays near the end of the second set that sparked a comeback from the Panthers. Two consecutive blocks from Irwin tied the game up for the Bobcats and her last kill ended the match for Beecher.

Congratulations to St. Joseph on an outstanding season.

Beecher moves on to the semi-finals this afternoon.
