Match Comments: Channahon Indians faced the Panthers of Edwardsville Liberty in the first semi-final matchup. Liberty jumped out to a quick lead 9-4, but the Indians rallied back when #28 Olivia Klank stepped up to serve. She served 10 straight to give the lead back to Channahon 15-10 before turning the ball over on a long serve. Both teams battled at the net with some great kills. #15 Rocky Perinar led the way for the Indians on the outside. Her cross court kill was spot on in the first set. The Panthers saw some great blocks from their middle hitters as well and #21 Rachel Pranger had some great quick kills in the middle.
In the second set, Edwardsville once again jumped out to the early lead 7-2, but Klank once again served to cut the lead to one before hitting her serve in the net. Edwardsville kept the lead this set and saw strong serving from Pranger and #10 Megan Woll to help grow their lead. Channhon rallied back t cut the lead to one point, but the Panthers held onto their lead to win the set. Each service point was hard fought by both teams in the second set. Nice long rallies in this set as each team’s defense dug the kills the other team was sending over the net.
The final set of the match saw Channahon take the early lead, but Edwardsville always kept it close. The great defense by both teams saw no server get more than three point in the set. #1 Taylor Baranski had some great kills down the line throughout the set and the setter #10 Emma Wiegmann had several key kills to help Channahon hold on for the win. The set ended on a key middle kill by #11 Holly Bonde.
Edwardsville Liberty will play in the third place match on Tuesday at 5:30 and Channahon will play for their first 8-4A state title following the third place match.
