Match Comments: The second quarterfinal match-up saw the Panthers of Edwardsville Liberty take on the Spartans of Frankfort Summit Hill. These two teams are no strangers to each other as they have faced off in the 7-4A state tournament quarterfinal match which the Panthers won last year. The teams traded points early in the match. Neither team getting into much of a rhythm. Frankfort got a kick to their offense by #22 Carolyn Waleski who had a great kill around the block to give them a side-out and on track to take the lead in the match. The teams traded side-outs until #21 Rachel Pranger had a huge middle hit off the block to tie the set for Edwardsville Liberty. Her net play helped the Panthers take the lead in the set that they would not relinquish.
The second set Edwardsville took the early lead in the set on the serving of #10 Megan Woll, but a huge block by #24Dori Frainey gave Frankfort the serve back to help stop the Panthers run, but the Spartans were not able to string together more than three points on their serve and were unable to make up the deficit they found themselves in this set. #30 for Edwardsville Jordyn Henricks had a nice swing cross court to get the serve back for the Panthers. Summit Hill never gave up and #10 Hanna Lesiak continued to swing each time she was given a set. The set ended on a missed pass that was put down in the middle by #25 Gabby Thomas.
Congratulations to Frankfort Summit Hill on a great season. Edwardsville Liberty will play Channahon in the semi-final match today at 1pm.
