Match Comments: With the Class 3A state championship on the line, the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains Middle School defeated the Eureka Hornets in two sets. Set one saw a balanced attack by Pleasant Plains, as three different Cardinals notched four or more service points. Jade Tapscott was especially on her game, as the standout Cardinal tallied an impressive three aces in set one which helped Pleasant Plains jump out to a quick lead. Meanwhile, the Hornets took a little while to get going but finally found some momentum behind the play of Katie Morin. Morin and her three service points helped the Hornets climb within four of Pleasant Plains. Back would come the Cardinals, behind the dominant frontline play of #33 McKenzie Smith. Smith set the tempo for the evening, and helped fuel Pleasant Plains to a 25-19 set one victory. Set two saw much of the same from the Cardinals, as Smith and company jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Pleasant Plains would go on to win set two by the final score of 25-16, thus winning the Class 3A title in the process. Kristen Kennedy would finish the evening with a game high nine service points, while Katie Morin's six points led the Hornets.
