Match Comments: In what was the last remaining quarterfinal contest in Class 3A, the Panthers of Pana JHS defeated the Hornets of Lockport Kelvin Grove. In the first set, it was a group attack orchestrated by the Panthers with each member of the squad chipping in. In fact, four different Pana Panthers tallied four or more points in the first set which helped guide them to a 25-16 victory. Back would come the Hornets of Lockport Kelvin Grove, and the fierce play of Sawyer Hollatz. The standout for Lockport tallied nine points including four aces to help the Hornets secure the second set by the final score of 25-23. Next came set three, with both teams trading points in the early going. It wasn't until a mid-set ace from Pana's Kaylee Holland that the match began to swing in the direction of the Panthers. Pana JHS watched their lead expand from three to nine en route to capturing the ever important third set. Holland would finish the match with 11 points, while Sawyer Hollatz's 12 points were enough to lead both teams in scoring.
With the win, Pana JHS advances to this evening's semifinal contest against this afternoon's previous winner in Pleasant Plains.
