Match Comments: The Championship match featured the Cougars of Springfield Christ the King and the Indians of Lewistown Central. Both teams were energized from the opening whistle and came out fighting. Points were traded back-and-forth as Sydney Shaeffer took over serving duties for the Indians. Shaeffer served some bullets that put the Indians in the lead. The Cougars answered with some tough net play behind Darby Moore and Lauren Thoma. Shaeffer had a big kill to put the Indians up 20-18. Caroline Younkin answered with her own kill for the Cougars but it was Shaffer who served out the first set for the Indians. In the second set, the Cougars came out on fire and got out to a quick lead. The net play of the Cougars was fierce behind the hitting of Moore and Thoma. The Cougars were soon out to an 8-3 lead. Momentum seemed to be on the side of the Cougars. Katie Vanpelt and Paige Bennett did their best at the net to keep the Indians in the match. Paige Heckler came up with the final kill to end the set for the Cougars. In the third set, the Cougars took the first point. The Indians struck back behind the aggressive serving of Baylee Mayberry. Shaeffer had a block to put the Indians up 5-1. It was Younkin who started the comeback for the Cougars with an ace at 5-10. Payton Vorreyer followed with a kill for the Cougars and they started to narrow the gap. Molly Holligan stepped back to serve for the Cougars and rattled off several aces bringing the game to 12-16. Shaeffer had a huge block at 17-12 for the Indians. Darby Moore answered with a huge block of her own at 15-20 for the Cougars. Moore followed it up with several aces that tied up the score at 22. It was Shaeffer who again had a big kill for her team. As the final points unfolded, it was Madison Swearingen who served out the match for the Indians.
