Match Comments: In the fourth quarter-final of the day the Cougars of Springfield Christ the King met the Braves of Payson-Seymour. Both teams battled back-and-forth early in the first set. Caroline Younkin had a kill for the Cougars that put the team up by 2. Riley Epperson answered back with a kill of her own for the Braves. The steady play of Christ the King put them on top early in the first set. Payton Vorreyer had several aces for the Cougars to push the lead to 20-10. Epperson had a great defensive effort at 14-20 that seemed to spark the Braves. Christ the King answered with great defense of their own to maintain control of the serve. It was tough serving from Vorreyer that closed out the match for the Cougars. In the second set, the teams again engaged in a back-and-forth battle. The key for Payson-Seymour was their aggressive net play. Epperson and Tori Shieferdecker had multiple kills and timely blocks to keep the Braves in the set. Lauryn Hinthorne had an ace for the Braves that tied the score at 18. Shieferdecker had a kill to put the Braves up 24-18. The Braves turned to Hinthorne who had a big kill to end the match. In the third set, the Braves came out with aggressive net play. They got out to an early lead on the Cougars. The Cougars answered back, finding the holes in both the Braves serve receive and defense. Grace Beyer had several aces for the Cougars that cut the lead of the Braves. Lauren Thoma came up with some timely kills to put the Cougars on top. Late in the third, both teams traded kills. Christ the King gained the momentum late in the match and Beyer served out the win for the Cougars.

Congratulations to Payson-Seymour on an outstanding season.
