Match Comments: The final match of the day was a thriller. The Panthers of Manteno faced the Cavaliers of Normal Kingsley. The Panthers got out to an early lead on the Cavaliers. Emma Hofmeister and Jessica Schindler strung together serving runs that kept the Panthers out front. In the middle of the first set, Carly Goben came up with two key aces that sparked a run for the Cavaliers. The teams played great defense to keep the game close. Kendall Sosa came up with a big kill to set the Cavaliers up with closing out the first set. Schindler had two blocks in the first set for the Panthers. Sosa and Morgan Knuckey both had 3 kills in the first for the Cavaliers. In the second set, the Cavaliers took the momentum out quick. Again, it was Goben who sparked the Cavaliers with 3 consecutive serving points. The Panthers rallied late in the set behind the serving of Schindler who forced passing errors from the Cavaliers. Sosa and Hannah Bach took control at the net for the Cavaliers with 3 kills and 2 kills respectively. The aggressive plays of the Cavaliers helped them close out the match. Taylor Valant had 2 kills and a block for the Panthers in the second set.
Manteno will play in the Consolation game on Tuesday.
Normal Kingsley will play in the Championship game on Tuesday. |
