Match Comments: In what was a terrific opening quarterfinal contest to kickoff the 8-2A state tournament, the Tigers of Gardner outlasted the Bombers of Mt. Olive two games to one. Both teams came rumbling out of the gate in a hurry, trading points left and right. Lexi Robison of Gardner set the tempo for her Tigers early on up front, dominating the net with fierce tenacity. It was partly due to Robison's aggressive play that the Tigers were able to seal game one late by a final score of 25-20. Following their game one victory, it appeared as if Gardner had carried over that momentum into game two. At one point, the Tigers were up 22-13 on the now teetering Bombers of Mt. Olive with victory in their sights. Give the Bombers credit however, as this gritty squad fought back from nearly 10 points down and rallied to take the lead and eventually the game 25-23. Jill Niehaus was the key cog for the Bombers in game two, as her double digit service points fueled the incredible comeback. Facing a critical game three, both teams came out swinging and eventually were knotted up at 9 apiece. It was at this point when Gardner and their aces began to put their foot on the gas and pull away. Jenni Price, Celia Barna and Sydney Perkins all contributed clutch points for the Tigers down the stretch. The ladies of Gardner fended off another late Mt. Olive comeback before capturing their 25-22 game three victory.

With the win, Gardner advances to this afternoon's first semi-final contest, as they await the victor between Albion and Lewistown Central. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Congratulations to both teams on a terrific opening contest!
