Game Comments: The final quarterfinal match-up today pitted the Sharpshooters of Sigel St. Michael’s against the Tars of Morton Blessed Sacrament. Both teams entered the game with three losses. Sigel jumped out to a quick lead by the end of the 1st quarter 12-3 with their high pressure defense and pushing the ball up the court for lay-ups. They continued to add to their lead in the second quarter with their pressure guard defense and by the play #2 Jolene Bueker who had 15 points in the first half. Sigel took an 11 point lead into the locker-room at the end of the half.
Both teams came out of the locker-room a little stiff in the second half. The first points were scored with 2 min to play in the quarter by Blessed Sacrament at the free throw line, but St. Michael’s was quick to answer with a couple of baskets to increase their lead going into the fourth quarter. In the last quarter, Morton cut the lead to 8 and held Sigel to 2 points, but the lead was too much to overcome for the Tars. Leading scorer for the game was Jolene Bueker for St. Michaels with 17 points; 15 of which came in the first half. Tenley Dowell had 14 for Morton Blessed Sacrament.
Congratulations to both teams on a great season. Sigel St. Michaels will play in the 6:30 semi-final game tonight.
