Game Comments: The Saints of Bloomington Holy Trinity met the Raiders of Champaign St. Matthew in the final game of the day. Early on both teams were trying to find their rhythm. Missed lay-ups and good defense kept the score low in the first quarter. In second quarter the Saints maintained a small lead, but both teams battled hard and Bloomington had a 14-12 lead at the half.
In the second half, Holy Trinity increased their pressure on defense and converted several steals to quick points and increased their lead on St. Matthews. The Saints scored 14 points in the third quarter and held the Raiders to only 4. The Saints continued to increase their lead in the fourth quarter and their pressure defense allowed them to take advantage of some costly turnovers by the Raiders.
Leading scorers for the game were #12 Lauren Shanks with 15 points for the Saints. #14 Isabell Atkins scored 10 for the Raiders. Champaign St. Matthew will play for the 3rd place game at 6:00 on Thursday. Bloomington Holy Trinity will be looking for their second consecutive 7-2A state title against Brimfield at 7:30.
