| Game Comments: It was the tale of two halves in the first quarterfinal game of the day between Springfield St. Agnes and Winchester. St. Agnes won the jump ball in the first half, but Winchester jumped out to an early lead. Their smothering defense in the paint made it difficult for the Aces to penetrate and get their basketballs. Costly turnovers and quick play by #34 Annika Kaufmann gave Winchester a 10-6 lead. They expanded on this lead in the second quarter to go into the locker-room with and 8 point lead. The Aces came out of the halftime a different team. The applied the press and double team Kaufmann forcing turnovers and creating opportunities for points from multiple different players in the quarter. #54 Nicole Swehla and #4 Victoria Zeigler both had 3 field goals in the quarter and the Aces had a total of 17 points to give them the lead. They continue to apply the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter and held Winchester to 6 points in the second half. Congratulations to both teams on a great season. The Aces advance to first semi-final game tonight at 5:00. |
