Game Comments: Champaign Franklin won the consolation game of the 8AA tournament Thursday evening, 32-31 over Chatham Glenwood in a game that was not decided until the last .7 seconds of the final quarter. Glenwood held a seven point lead at both halftime and at the end of the third quarter but the Knights outscored Glenwood 12-4 in the final stanza to capture third place. Franklin jumped on the Titans in the 4th quarter and held a 30-29 lead until the 1:59 mark when the Titan's Abby Cress made one free throw to tie the game at 30 all. Then with the scored tied and Glenwood with the ball, Okeimu Hampton of Franklin stole the ball with 1:43 remaining and was fouled going in for the layup. She missed the first charity toss but made the second to give Franklin a 31-30 lead. Glenwood took the ball downcourt and at the 1:37 mark, Kailey Osborne was fouled. She missed the front end of the one and bonus. For the next one minute and 31 seconds neither team scored as there were numerous turnovers, held balls and missed shots. Down one and with the ball, Glenwood was working for a final shot. Clare Feely then made a huge steal for Franklin with 11 seconds to go and was fouled. Feely went to the line for the one and bonus and made the first but missed the second which gave Franklin a 32-30 lead. At the time, Feely had no idea how big the one free throw would turn out to be. Glenwood grabbed the missed free throw and worked the ball to Courtney Morris. Morris was outside the three point arc and was attempting the game winning three point shot when she was fouled with .7 seconds remaining by Kierra Robinson. Robinson, who led Franklin with 10 points had to leave the game with her 5th foul. Morris had made all three of her previous charity tosses but missed the first free throw and made the second to pull Glenwood to within one, 32-31. Franklin called a timeout after the second free throw. Morris, who led all scorers with 16 points was not able to convert the third toss which would have tied the game. Chatham Glenwood completes their season with a 17-6 record while Champaign Franklin finishes their season with a sparkling 20-1 record.
