Game Comments: In what was one of the all time great IESA semifinal contests in Class 3A history, the Crusaders of Quincy Blessed Sacrament narrowly defeated the Marshall Cubs 35-34 in double overtime. This instant classic started and finished as one of the more aggressive matchups of the day. Both teams were banging down low, with Marshall's Cole Boyer setting the early tempo. The standout post player tallied five first quarter points that helped his Cubs muster a slim 11-10 lead over Quincy Blessed Sacrament. Back would come the Crusaders, and a stingy second quarter defense that would hold the Cubs to just two points. Exiting halftime now down 16-13, the Cubs turned to Boyer and Gabe Kash for some offensive assistance. The two combined for big play after big play in the third quarter, with Kash finding his stroke from inside and outside the arch. The Crusaders countered with Clay Venvertloh, who notched five of his game high 15 points in the third quarter to help give Blessed Sacrament a two point lead heading into the fourth. It was in the fourth that Boyer and his Cubbie teammates began to reassert themselves down low, en route to retaking the lead. With less than 30 seconds to play and suddenly down by two, the Crusaders needed a bucket and called upon Aaron Smith to do so. With little room to spare, #24 sank a 10 foot jumper that would send the game into OT. We both teams trading only a single basket in the first overtime session, the score was tied at 30. It appeared to be much of the same in the second overtime, until Blaine Shumaker received a nifty baseline pass from Kash that he would convert into a two point lead for Marshall. With less than 14 seconds remaining, the Crusaders pushed the ball down court and quickly called a time out. The clock now stood at roughly five seconds, as Blessed Sacrament inbounded the ball and dished it out to Macker Little who was positioned firmly behind the three point line. With precious seconds ticking away, #23 heaved the go-ahead basket as the buzzer promptly followed. Clay Venvertloh was the game's leading scorer with 16 points, while Cole Boyer tallied 13 for Marshall.

With the victory, Quincy Blessed Sacrament advances to next Thursday's 3A state championship game, as they await the winner of this evening's semifinal contest between Dixmoor Rosa Parks and Monticello. Marshall JHS will battle the runner up of tonight's game to determine third place.
