Game Comments: In game one of today's Class 3A quarterfinal action, the Crusaders of Quincy Blessed Sacrament used a big time third quarter comeback to topple the Gators of Peoria Quest by the final score of 38-33. In the first half, it was all Gators, as Avierre Ross and his teammates were firing on all cylinders offensively. Ross tallied six of his teams 13 first quarter points en route to an early lead for the Gators. Second quarter would be much of the game, as Peoria Quest extended their lead thanks to timely shooting and tenacious defense. Heading into the half, the Crusaders were faced with a seven point deficit and had just been held to a mere four points in the second. In need of a turnaround, Quincy Blessed Sacrament exited half refocused and reenergized. A balanced offensive attack aided the Crusaders in their efforts to eventually tie the game at 18 all. From there, Quincy Blessed Sacrament kept the pressure high on both ends of the court, leading to several Gator turnovers. By the time the third quarter had finished, the Crusaders had outscored Peoria Quest 15-3 while now holding a 26-21 lead. From there, the Crusaders made seven of nine fourth quarter free throw attempts, as they pulled away to secure the victory. Clay Venvertloh led the Crusaders with 12 points, while Terrell Walker tallied 11 for the Gators.
With the win, the Crusaders of Quincy Blessed Sacrament now advance to this evening's semifinal contest. They currently await the winner of this morning's quarterfinal matchup between Hoopeston and Marshall JHS. Tipoff for tonight's semifinal contest is 5:00pm.
Congratulations to both teams on a terrific opening game! |
