Game Comments: Jacksonville Our Saviour claimed 1st place honors in the 2014 IESA 8th grade Class 1A boys basketball tournament with a thrilling 23-19 victory over the previously undefeated Annawan Braves. The Shamrocks finish the 2013-14 campaign with a perfect 28-0 record while the Braves close their season at 26-1. Although the game was low scoring it did not lack excitement. Annawan jumped to an early 1st quarter lead 11-4 and led 13-9 at halftime. Each team scored six points in the third period as the Braves took a 19-15 lead into the final stanza. But the 4th quarter was all Shamrocks as they turned up the intensity on defense and held Annawan scoreless in the 4th period. Our Saviour took the lead for good at the 2:05 mark of the 4th quarter on a basket by Ryan Beckman. After an Annawan miss, Drew Winters made both ends of a one and bonus to extend the lead to 22-19. A three point attempt by Brendon Shaw did not go down and Our Saviour grabbed the rebound. Ryan Beckman made the front end of the one and bonus to up the lead to 23-19 with 34 ticks left on the clock. Ben Buresh, who led the Braves with 6 points, then attempted a 3 pointer that rattled in and out and Our Saviour grabbed the rebound. Beckman went to the line with :21 showing on the clock for another one and bonus but missed the front end. Annawan could not score after they rebounded the missed free throw and Our Saviour claimed the title. Congratulations to both teams.
