Game Comments: Chester-East Lincoln finished their season in style with a 39-36 overtime win over Brussels in the third place game of the 2014 IESA 8th grade Class 1A state tournament. The Panthers finish their season with 22 wins and 2 losses while the Eagles complete their season with 16 wins and 11 losses. The game was close throughout as Chester-East held a 7-4 lead after one period only to see the Eagles claw back into the lead at halftime, 17-14. The Panthers outscored Brussels 11-6 in the 3rd stanza to lead 25-23 heading into the 4th period. Brussels led 32-29 and Reese Kiel had a one and bonus for the Eagles with about 30 seconds remaining. Kiel missed the front end and the Panthers grabbed the rebound. Chester-East called a time-out with about 12 seconds remaining. Isaiah Bowers took the inbounds pass after the time out and swished a 21 footer to tie the game and send it into overtime. Brussels jumped out to a 36-32 lead in OT behind two baskets from Andrew Hoemmen. From that point on, it was all Chester-East and in particular all Jordan Jacobs. Jacobs scored all seven of his teams points in the overtime on two 2 pt. field goals and one huge 3 pt. goal that gave the Panthers the lead for good in OT at 37-36. Congratulations to both teams.
