| Game Comments: In the first semifinal of the night, the South Holland McKinely Monarchs and the Marshall JHS Cubs met to decide who gets to go to the championship. Both teams came ready to play and were fighting for control of the game in the first quarter. The Cubs’ Dawson McNeill and Spencer Shaffner poured in all 9 points for their team in the first. The Monarchs would match that and it was a tie game going into the second. Damone Garrison had a nice little floater in the lane to help the Monarchs during the second quarter. The Monarchs held the slimmest of leads going into the half. The Cubs answer in the third quarter was Brock Finkbiner. He poured in two three point baskets to help his team grab the lead in the third. The Monarchs’ Bruce Davis grabbed a nice offensive rebound and got the put back to help keep his team close. The Monarchs would answer in the fourth though with the play of Paul Godbold. He scored two consecutive baskets to help his team jump in front. That would prove to be enough and the Monarchs are headed to the state championship game next Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The Cubs will play in the third place game at 6:00 p.m. |
