Game Comments: Washington Central Trojans and the South Holland McKinley Monarchs met in the first quarterfinal game of the day and set the bar high to kick off the tournament. The first quarter was filled with defense from both teams. The Monarchs’ Cameron Duke had a nice offensive rebound and a put back to give his team the lead after the first. Both teams loosened up in the second. Garret Frank of the Trojans gave his team a big lift when he scored all 11 of his team’s points in the second quarter. The teams would end up in tie going into the half. T’Cori Lewis of the Monarchs helped his team get off to a good start when he stole the ball and got it to George Harris for a fast break in which he drew the foul. Both teams would battle for control the rest of the way. The Trojans led by four with just a couple of minutes to go. The Monarchs would not go away and were persistent in their effort. The Monarchs would tie the game and the Trojans had the ball with 16 seconds remaining. The Trojans’ Colton Sharp got to the basket and drew the foul with just a few seconds remaining. He was unable to convert on the free throws and we were headed for overtime. The Monarchs proved to be too much in overtime and hit their free throws down the stretch. That would be the difference in overtime and the Monarchs move onto the semifinals later today at 5:00 p.m. Congratulations to the Trojans on a tremendous season.
