| Game Comments: The state championship featured the South Holland McKinley Monarchs and the Pleasant Plains Cardinals. Both teams came out of the lockerooms tight and had trouble finding the basket. The Monarchs’ Paul Godbold would help his team with a fastbreak layup to get them on the board first. But the Cardinals were quick to answer with a basket Cole Greer. The Cardinals would be up one point going into the second quarter. Bruce Davis would open up the quarter for the Monarchs with a putback layup. The Cardinals were quick to answer with a three point basket of their own. The Monarchs would cut the lead to just one going into the half. The Cardinals would come out strong to set the tone for the second half. The would extend their lead to nine points at the halfway mark. But the Monarchs defense stepped up and answered the challenge. The would climb back into the game and would only be down by two going into the last quarter. But the Cardinals would manage to hang on to the lead in the fourth. They would go on to win the state championship by a final score of 31-25. Congratulations to both teams on a terrific season. |
