Game Comments: Marshall JHS Starters: 24, 25, 31, 32, 34. Washington MS Starters: 3, 13, 21, 22, 53. In front of a near-capacity crowd, the first half was a classic battle of two heavyweights, with the score tied at 2-2, 7-7 and 9-9. Marshall JHS jumped ahead 2-0 and never trailed in the half, but its largest lead was 7-3 late in the first quarter. Marshall JHS's Logan Cannady hit a jumper with a little over a minute to go in the second quarter to give his team its 11-9 halftime lead. Marshall JHS took a 17-11 lead with 2:55 to go in the third quarter on a free throw from Jordan Grooms for its biggest lead thusfar in the game and Marshall JHS led 17-13 after three quarters. Then both team threw their best punches on offense in the fourth quarter. A left baseline jumper by Ben Ryan for Washington tied the score at 19-19 with 4:25 to go in the game. Jordan Grooms then made a basket and the foul shot to put Marshall ahead 22-19. Lagan Cannady hit a three-pointer for Marshall with 4;23 to go and a 25-19 lead. Logan Cannady made another basket with 2:19 to go to give Marshall JHS a 29-22 lead. Washington MS came back with a three-point basket by Zach Little to cut the deficit to 29-25. Logan Cannady countered with a pair of free throws on the double bonus for a 31-25 Marshall lead with 1:07 to go. Jared Boyl followed with a free throw for Marshall JHS at the 1:07 mark and a 31-25 margin. With 0:47 left, Marshall's Jared Boyl hit 1 of 2 free throws and a 32-25 margin. Jordan Broadstone countered for Washington with a three-point basket to cut the deficit to 32-28 with 0:29 to go. With 0:25 left, Marshall's Jordan Grooms missed two free throws. Ben Ryan hit a two-point basket from the left side with 0:15 to go to cut the Washington deficit to 32-30. Logan Cannady hit two free throws for Marshall with 0:11 left for a 34-30 lead. With 0:05 left, Washington's Ben Ryan was fouled on a three-point shot and made the first two. He missed the third free throw but his team got the ball back and at the buzzer Washington's Jordan Broadstone had his three-pointer from out front bounce off the rim. |
