Match Comments: The final quarterfinal match-up pitted the Saints of Pontiac St. Mary’s against the Falcons of Springfield Little Flower. These two teams battled it out in the first set. Long rally’s and balanced attacks from both teams saw a close set go down to the wire. #7 Chloe Hillyer took the Falcons to a 24-21 lead before the sideout. Then #13 Hannah Legner stepped up and served four straight points and an Ace to win the set.
The second set, saw much of the same as the first. The teams battled for every ball with long rally’s that had the crowd on their feet. Little Flower saw attacks from #13 Abby Madonia and #12 Addie Butcher at the net and were led by #3 Hannah Boyd who had six service points and two aces in the set. The Falcons finished strong and won the second set.
The final set of the match had both teams trading points and sideout until the second service rotation. #13 Hannah Legner had two great heads up tips at the end of the set at Little Flower tried to close it out to keep the Saints in the match. #20 Maddie Wright stepped up to serve and fired off and ace to put the Saints up 26-25 before putting the match away on the next serve.
Congratulations to both teams on a great match and to Springfield Little Flower on a great season. Pontiac St. Mary’s will play Hartsburg-Emden in the 5:15 semi-final match today.
