Match Comments: The fourth quarterfinal match of the day was an exciting contest as the Bobcats of Beecher outlasted the Trojans of Auburn JHS, 21-25, 25-12, 25-21 to earn a spot in the final four of the 2013 8th grade Class 3A state tournament. Beecher (20-6) will now face Eureka in the second semifinal contest of the day with the winner to advance to the championship game against Pleasant Plains while the loser of the contest will take on St. Joseph for third place honors. Both contests will be held on Tuesday, March 19 with the third place game scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The championship game will immediately follow. This match had all the highs and lows any match has that goes three sets. Auburn took set one 25-21 while Beecher took set two, 25-12. Set three started off with Beecher jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Auburn fought its way back into the set but Beecher took a 24-18 lead. Auburn got a side out to make it 24-19 and two consecutive service points for Emily Jessup cut the lead to 24-21. Following a Beecher timeout, and after a nice volley between the two teams, Beecher got the sideout point to win the match. Congratulations to both teams.
