Match Comments: The first semifinal match-up saw the Cavaliers of Kingsley take on the Comets of Quincy. The match saw some great net play and consistent serving and long rallies. Both teams worked the jitters out in their quarterfinal matches and matched up well. Kingsley took the early lead in the first set and never relinquished it. Kingsley was lead by the net play of #17 Amber Nanni and #29 Ali Reece. The second set saw Quincy rebound and bring a balanced attack from #18 arriana benjamin and 15 Callie lambert. Quincy led the second set for most of the way. Kingsley was able to cut it to one at 13-12, but the Comets would not go down and pulled out the second set, 25-17. The final set of the match was intoned the battle. The two teams traded sideout points and kills from multiple players. Quincy built up a small lead 9-5, but the Cavaliers would not go away. Several servers brought the set to within one, but they could bring it to a tie. 4 Carly Goben stepped up to serve and tied the game at 16 all. Quincy called a quick timeout, but Goben came back with an ace. The game quickly tied again on a service error. Quincy battled back and regained the lead. Kingsley's Morgan Knuckey had some huge kills at the end of the set to give the Cavaliers stage confidence they needed to take the game. The final point of the match saw a good rally by both team with some amazing digs. Quincy will play in the third place match and Kingsley will play in the championship match Tuesday night. |
