| Match Comments: The final quarterfinal match saw the Panthers of Edwardsville Liberty vs. the Panthers of Manteno. In the first set of the match Liberty took an early lead with consistent serving and the net play of Megan Woll and Rachel Pranger. But Manteno would cut the lead to 2 at 16-14on some crucial passing errors by Liberty. After a key timeout, liberty was able to regroup and a key kill by Pranger brought the service back to Liberty's Ashlin West. The second set was a battle to the end. Both teams failed to capitalize on errors by the other team early on and ended up traind points. A key kill by by Rebecca Schaeffer cross court gave Manteno their first lead and the confidence to take this set to the wire and force a third and final set. The final set of the match saw Manteno take the early lead on the serving of Taylor Valant with three aces of her 5 straight service points giving Manteno an 8-1 lead. Liberty battled back on some key blocks by Rachel Pranger, but the lead was too much to overcome and Manteno finished up the set with a great serve by Madison Spalding. Congratulations to both teams on a great season. Good luck to Manteno in the rest of the tournament. |
