Match Comments: The third place match of the 8th grade Class 2A started with Mendon Unity jumping to a 9-3 lead behind the excellent serving of Ashley Brooks. Grant Park played the match without 6'0" middle hitter, Corryn Poby. A sideout by GP made the score to 9-4 and an ensuing point by GP made it 9-5. Unity moved the score to 13-6 before a sideout and four straight points by Grant Park got the score to 13-11. A sideout for Unity and a point for the Colts moved the score to 15-11. A sideout for the Dragons, an ace by Jessice Frahm, and a service winner by Frahm and the score was 15-14 in favor of the Colts. The Colts got a sideout after calling a timeout and then got two consecutive points to make it 18-14. A bad serve by Unity made the score 18-15 but the Colts got a sideout which made the score 19-15. A winner by Unity was followed by a sideout so the score moved to 20-16. Unity hit a volley out of bounds and Ashley Brooks was again serving for the Colts. Her first serve was an ace and the score was 22-16. GP called a time out but Brooks had three more service points the last coming on a kill by Rachel Rush to win game one for the Colts, 25-16.

Game two started out completely different than game one as GP jumped to a 6-1 lead before Unity got a sideeout and a winner which made the score 6-3. But a sideout for the Dragons and two points (one an ace by Vallory Lisdero) made the score 9-3 before Unity called a timeout to stop the Dragons' momentum. The Dragons got one more point after the timeout and then Unity got a sideout to make the score 10-4. One point for the Colts and a sideout made the score 11-5 but Unity got a sideout and it was then 11-6. Unity crept closer with a winner for an 11-7 score and a mis-hit at the net by GP made the score 11-8 in favor of the Dragons. Another winner for Unity and the score was 11-9. A hit out of bounds by GP made the score 11-10. GP called a timeout. Kylee Churchill had a kill to tie the score at 11 before Unity received another point to take the lead at 12-11. A double hit call on Unity finally stopped the run and the score was 12-12. Unity got a sideout and was serving with the lead 13-12. A block on a kill attempt by Churchill led to another point, 14-12 in favor of Unity. Two more Unity points and the score was 16-12. Madison Gossett stopped the run with a kill and the score was 16-13 in favor of Unity. GP scored a point but then had a service error in the net so the score was 17-14. A Rush kill made the score 18-14. GP hit one out of bounds to mkae it 19-14 but a kill by Ali Thiesen made it 19-15. Unity couldn't handle a pass and the score was 19-16. Unity hammered one home for a sideout and a 20-16 advantage. A net violation by the Dragons made it 21-16. GP called a timeout. After the time out the Dragons got a sideout to make it 21-17. Another sideout by Unity made it 22-17 and then a sideout by the Dragons had the score 22-18. Four straight points by the Dragons tied it at 22. Mendon Unity finally won 25-23 to capture third place honors.
