Match Comments: Game one started with an ace by Kylee Churchill to give Mendon Unity a short-lived 1-0 lead. A side out made it 1-1 and then Maggie Hayes of Lexington served four straight points. The teams traded side outs and then Laura Miller served three consecutive points as Lexington jumped to a 9-2 lead. Mendon Unity called a time out to stop the run andit worked as the Colts were able to get a side out and after getting a winner on their serve Unity had cut the lead to 9-4. Lexington then got a side out for a 10-4 lead and then with 4 straight points to go to 14-4 while setter Sydney Freed was serving, Unity finally secured a side out to make it 14-5. The Colts got a nother point on serve to make it 14-6, an service winner by Rachel Rush to make it 14-7, a kill by Unity to cut the deficit to 14-8 when Lexington took a time out. A bad set by Unity caused a mis-hit and a side out for Lexington, 15-8. Unity hit into the net for a 16-8 Lexington lead, a kill by Maggie Hayes made it 17-8, before a net winner by Rush made it 17-9. Lexington's Hayes got a kill of a tip for an 18-9 lead by Lexington. A great block by Hayes at the net made it 19-9, Lexington. Mendon called a time out but after the TO the Colts hit into the net, 20-9 Lexington. A double hit by MU made it 21-9. and when Taylor Winterland had as ervice ace the score jumped to 22-9. A powerful kill by Hayes moved the score to 23-9. Winterland had a service winner by to make it 24-9. Mendon got a side out for a 24-10 defecit but Lexington cames right back with a winner and took game one 25-10.
Game 2 started with a tip by Bridgette Sims to give Lexington a 1-0 lead but Unity came right back with a side out to even the score at 1-1. Kylee Churchill for Unity served and after a nice volley Unity got into the net and Lexington went up 2-1. MU gets a side out to make it 2-2, but Lexington comes right back with a side out for a 3-2 lead. Sydney Freed got a kill to make it a 4-2 lead and three more winners gave Lexington a 7-2 lead with the 7th point on a kill by Hayes even though Unity was at the net for the block. Unity called a time out. Lexington got the next point to make it 8-2 before a side out by Unity made the score 8-3. A nice tip by Freed gave Lexington a side out and 9-3 Lexington lead. During the next volley, the ball dropped on Unity's side of net for a 10-3 Lexington lead. Unity hit the next one long and it was 11-3. Rachel Rush for Unity came up with a big kill and Lexington led 11-4. A kill by Lexington gave the Minuteman a 12-4 lead but Unity came back with a sideout point to make it 12-5. Lexington hit it in the net and it was 12-6. Rebekah Tallcott then served for Unity. An unforced error brought Unity to within five at 12-7. When Lexington missed returning the next serve giving Tallcott an ace, it was 12-8. A kill for Unity made it 12-9. Coach Julie Thomas called a timeout to settle down her team. The ensuing play resulted in a net winner for Hayes and made the score 13-9. Kasey Ummel had a great serve and it was 14-9. Another good serve by Ummel and a nice volley with several digs by both teams ends up with a kill by Unity and the score moved to 14-10. A block by Hayes at the net extended Lexington's lead to 15-10. A service error by Lexington made it 15-11. Unity served and Brashears got an ace to make it 15-12 but her next serve went out of bounds and Lexington led, 16-12. A four hit call against Unity made it 17-12 and another kill by #19 Bridgette Sims made it 18-12. Unity called a time out and then three coonsecutive aces by Laura Miller made it 21-12. A serve into the net made it 21-13. A side out extended Lexington's lead to 22-13 with Syd Freed serving. Unity got a side out to make it 22-14 but a mis-hit by Unity made it 23-14 with Sims serving. A kill by Hayes made it 24-14 but a net foul on the potential match point made it 24-15. Two service winner by Unity's Rush made it 24-17. Thomas again called a time out and her plan worked as the next serve went long. Lexington won 25-17 and with the victory came a spot in Tuesday's championship match. |
