Match Comments: The Knights of Decatur Holy Family brought their perfect record of 23-0 into the quarterfinal match against Bartonville Oak Grove. Erin Hettinger served 10 straight points, four coming on aces as Holy Family jumped to an 11-1 lead over Oak Grove. After a side out, Sydney Delgadillo for OG served three straight points before powerful Alexis Clemons hammered home a kill to make it 12-5. Morgan Schwindenhammer had a kill for OG to make it 12-6 but a quick sideout made it 13-6. A service error by HF made it 13-7 and when HF hit it long it was 13-8. An over serve by OG made it 14-8. Two service winners by Clemons made it 16-8. A side out for OG and a service winner by Megan Hobson made it 16-10. A net foul by OG made it 17-10 and then a mistake letting the ball fall by OG had the score 18-10. Consecutive lifts by OG made the score 20-10 before another net foul by OG gave the Knights 21-10 lead. Two more winners by Holy Family moved the score to 23-10 before Oak Grove was finally able to stop the run with a side out to make it 23-11 but on the next serve a side out made it 24-11. Jordan Wooden then served the game winner as the Knights took game one 25-11.
Game two started with a side out for Holy Family and then Wooden served three straight points for a 4-0 lead. A hitting error by Wooden made it 4-1 and then OG scored a point for a 4-2 deficit. A side out made it 5-2, but then 5 consecutive service winners by Hettinger, three on aces for HF made the score 10-2 before a service error made it 10-3. OG got a point for 10-4, a service winner by by Sydney Delgadillo made it 10-5 but Claire Raycraft got a block at the net and the side out made it 11-5, HF. Gretchen Vandercar had a good serve for a 12-5 lead but a kill by Schwindenhammer made it 12-6. Bailey Clarahan served for OG but a mis-hit by OG gave HF the lead at 13-6. Jacklynn Rasor served and HF got a winner for a 14-6 lead. The next play had a good volley and resulted in a kill by Clemmons for a 15-6 lead but Rasor then served long to make it 15-7. OG returned the long serve to make it 16-7. OG got a side out 16-8, a net violation by HF made it 16-9 but a serve into the net by OG made the score 17-9. Jordan Rogers served for HF and after a long volley, OG got a winner from Delgadillo to make it 17-10. OG hit it long for an 18-10 lead for HF. Wooden then served and HF scored a point to make it 19-10 and then a powerful serve by Wooden made it 20-10. OG called time out and on the ensuing serve by HF it went long and OG was down, 20-11. HF then had two hitting errors as OG narrowed the gap to 20-13 but a service error by OG made it 21-13. OG got a kill to make it 21-14 . Delgadillo served for OG but a another point for HF made it 24-14. Vandercar then tried to serve out the game and match for HF and with a service ace she made it game and match 25-14 for Decatur Holy Family. |
