Game Comments: The Championship game was an anticipated match-up between state tournament rivals Normal Kingsley and Rochester JHS. These two teams have met several times over the last 4 years. Rochester took the title in 2009 and Kingsley took the title in 2011. The game was a great back-and-forth battle. Rochester got up quickly on the Cavaliers using the strength and size of their inside game to dominate the boards. The Cavaliers had to turn to their outside accuracy to stay in the game. That became more difficult as Aubrey Magro drained two 3-pointers in the first half for the Rockets. This put the Rockets up going into the halftime break. In the second half, the Cavaliers started to push the ball up quickly and turn up the pressure on their press. This caused some problems for the Rockets and allowed the Cavaliers to climb back into the game. As the fourth quarter started, the Cavaliers were down by 5. At the three minute mark, the Cavaliers had cut the lead and taken over. It then became a sprint to the finish. The Cavaliers did their best to control the clock as the swarming defense of the Rockets put on pressure. The Cavaliers hung on to the lead as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
Katie Nika finished with 10 points for Rochester. Amber Nanni finished with 11 points for Normal Kingsley.
