Game Comments: The third quarterfinal matchup saw the Falcons of Springfield Little Flower take on the Lions of Maryville Christian. The Falcons jumped out to an commanding lead in the first quarter scoring 20 points to Maryville’s 6. They kept a 12 point lead going into the locker-room at the half. The second half was the comeback of the century and saw the Lions come out of the locker-room a different team. They slowly ate away at the lead of Little Flower and took advantage of bad passing and turnovers. In the fourth quarter they cut the lead to 3 with 2:28 to play. Leading the way was #12 Makenzie Silvey who set a new Class 8-1A record for most points in a game with 29. The previous record was 25 points for a game. She added three 3’s in the fourth quarter help put her team in a position to win the game. In the closing minutes of the game the Lions had the lead 41-37. #15 Claire Dodson drained a baseline 3 to cut the lead to one point. Claire ended the game with 14 points for the Falcons. On the next possession the Falcons stole the inbound pass but didn’t put away the lay-up. Maryville tried to eat away at the clock and was put at the free throw lane twice in the closing second but didn’t convert. 00 Gianni Perkins center for Little Flower came back in the game after spraining her ankle and drove the court for an lay-up to give Little Flower the lead by 1. Maryville had one last look as they drove the court themselves but did not convert on the lay-up as time ran out.
Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game and to Maryville Christian on a tremendous season. Springfield Little Flower will play in the 6:30 semi-final game tonight.
